Whether you’re a Noosa visitor or local, this Floating Land Tour is a unique experience for all. This creative biannual event is the responding to contemporary ideas and concerns, the Floating Land Biennale shifts its frame of reference with each new occurrence.
In 2023, Floating Land: Us and Them, seeks to scrutinise aberration and affinity. To look at other perspectives and share who each of us are. Our stories and experiences. Our joys, darknesses and dreams. It will set out to challenge assumptions, check prejudice and revel in discomfort. Unpick antagonism, interrogate mutual exclusivity, and jumble competing concerns. It might even find some common ground.
This all-inclusive luxury tour of the Floating Land exhibits covers most corners of Noosa, including the river, hinterland, and beach. In addition to the exhibits, sightseeing and scenic country drives, we include a delicious lunch with drink in Boreen Point, and tea & coffee in the morning. To further compliment this tour, we provide you with an experienced guide and door to door pick-ups in a luxury vehicle with reclining seats and a USB port for each seat to charge your phones and cameras along the way.
- You’ll start the day at the engine room of this incredible event, the Noosa Regional Gallery, where you will experience three very different exhibitions, plus ‘The Eviction’ installation by Van T Rudd. Here you will also enjoy a complimentary tea or coffee alongside the gallery.
- We then move further up the Noosa river from Lake Doonella past Lake Cooroibah to an old riverside landing campsite that once homed many homeless. This is the inspiration for Kim Guthrie’s River’s Edge/Haunt installation at this location.
- The largest lake in the Noosa Everglades is our next destination where a friendly little village sits called Boreen Point. Here you will enjoy a delicious lunch with a drink at the 150+ year old Apollonian Hotel that has plenty of charm and supports local farmers and producers.
- After lunch we will make our way down to the foreshore of the lake where we will find the Murang Ngai installation by Lyndon Davis, Leah Barclay and Tricia King.
- Next we move away from the lakes to Noosa’s historical centre, Pomona, where we will stop at the dead centre of town in the Pomona Cemetery to see Laura Woodward’s installation called ‘How do we hold these things together?’.
- A hop, skip and a jump down the road will land us in the town of Pomona where we will find frost drawing installations by Gasia Wlodarczak. If time permits, a little wander through the Pomona township is a possibility.
- From here we head towards the sea and into the Noosa Woods for a nice walk to find Todd Fuller’s installations. Between 20-30 July we will also include Hoda Afshar’s Remain installation, which are only available during these dates.
- We then finish this wonderful tour by joining the setting sun on Noosa’s picturesque Park Road boardwalk as we admire Juan Ford’s installation nestled between the boardwalk and the sun setting over the sea.
- We will have you back to your accommodation no later than 6pm before 20 July, and no later than 6:30pm between 20 and 30 July, in time for dinner.
